Ego Boost
I met my friend E's mysterious Japanese girlfriend M face-to-face for the first time yesterday.

Mostly what M knew about me is that I was E's friend and liked manga and video games, and E had described me as a fairly normal American.


Apparently I surprised her with how I look :D One, I'm a lot taller than she expected. Two, according to her I have a more Russia look* than an American look, with more angular features as opposed to a more rounded look, which is a good thing since apparently she swoons over Russian figure skaters :) Also in order to further shatter her image E mentioned to her that I studied Kung Fu for a few years and know how to fight with swords, which apparently got an "Oh! That explains the ponytail. A guy with a ponytail like that looks like he fights with swords" (which, admittedly, is part of the reason I have the ponytail ^^) and mentioned the bishounen stereotype. E didn't know what she was was talking about but that's because he doesn't watch enough anime ;)



E told me all of this afterwards while laughing and M was telling him not to tell, btw :)





*Which I hadn't heard before, but it kinda makes sense. My sister and I have occasionally been assumed to be part Asian (although I don't see it, aside from the eyes), and the day before I saw some Russian guys at Chipotle with a similar look the other day so I made the connection. Russian makes more sense than Far-east Asian.
